12 years ago, when I first started my career as a graphic designer I used nothing but Quark Xpress. I became so familiar with the software that I could design with it in my sleep (as was often the case).
About 5 years ago, I decided to become a freelance graphic and web designer. Realising that software isn't cheap, I decided to buy the entire Adobe Creative Suite. I was going to also purchase Quark Xpress at a later date, but at the time it costed just over £1000...a little out of my budget.
I decided to give Adobe InDesign a fair go. It came bundled with the Adobe Creative Suite Professional which cost in total about £900 and included Illustrator, Photoshop, GoLive and Acrobat Professional.
I have now abandoned the idea of buying Quark Xpress as Adobe InDesign seems to offer all of the things that Quark did and a lot more. There was a sizable learning curve with InDesign; it is very similiar to Quark.
I would like to hear from other people who have made this transition and gauge what kind of welcome InDesign has received. I know it is now an old topic - the whole 'Is InDesign the new Quark killer?' but the debate started many years ago and since then Quark and InDesign have change a somewhat and struggled with each other.
Your opinions are welcome. |
