To start the ball rolling - many people have asked me this question, so I'd be interested to see as many perspectives as possible.
Question: How do you become a webdesigner - what steps are required?

The hard way I'm afraid.
I started from rock bottom and worked my way up. This is a very competitive area, but there aren't that many decent web designers out there. So if you work hard at it and try and learn as much as you can and always improve your techniques, you'll do well.
I'd start off by offering a few freebie websites - charities, friends, etc. |

Yes, thanks Gango. It is tough to make a start. Freebies are a great way in, but you have to becareful that your good will is not taken advantage of.
I'd suggests that you also look at webdesign forums where you can find all sorts of solutions and advice. A good site to visit is http://www.w3schools.com/. The site is a bit clumsy to navigate around but is packed with great advice.
Another site to try is my own webdesign article board - http://www.turningturnip.co.uk/web-design-articles/
All the best, James |
